What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a type of treatment performed with a special handheld device. The specific devices that different clinics use vary, but they are all generally built with several “micro-needles.” When applied to the skin, these ultra-fine and sterile needles create microscopic wounds in the targeted area. The surrounding tissue is not touched. This process stimulates beneficial healing, including the production of collagen and elastin deep within the skin. As more collagen is produced, your skin becomes firmer. Overall skin quality is improved. As more elastin is produced, you’ll see texture improvements and concerns like laxity (saggy, loose skin).
Can microneedling fade my brown spots?
Yes! Microneedling is appropriate for all sorts of sun damage, including hyperpigmentation or dark discoloration. This treatment both boosts collagen production and promotes cell renewal. As the pigmented or discolored skin cells are shed, new healthy tissue replaces the damaged areas and breaks up discoloration. Dark spots fade, and a more even, radiant complexion is supported. Microneedling may also be appropriate to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks, as the new collagen helps to fill in depressions and smooth the skin’s surface.
